East Valley School District is located in Yakima County, Washington, just east of the City of Yakima. It encompasses the City of Moxee and portions of the unincorporated county, including the Terrace Heights community. The resident population of the East Valley School District is over 17,000. Our community has continued to experience significant growth in residential, educational (Pacific Northwest University), business, and industry over the past 10 years.

East Valley is primarily rural, situated in a valley surrounded by agriculture. Known as the hop production capital of the state and home to bountiful crops and vineyards, agri-tourism thrives. With abundant outdoor activities (hiking, biking, camping, skiing, and more) less than an hour away and four full seasons, East Valley’s central location makes it an ideal place to call home.

As the 2025-26 school year comes to a close, we take time to celebrate the successes of yet another great school year. I continue to be proud of the work of our staff and students, and, because of that, am optimistic about the future of our district. Successes such as continuing to expand class offerings that align with the interests of our students, expansion of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, establishing alternative learning experience (ALE) online options for students; growing efforts designed to connect students to school, continually improving the educational experiences provided to students, and expanding the supports provided to students to ensure success are just a few of the highlights.

Throughout the summer, we also take time to reflect on our opportunities for improvement by analyzing student growth and achievement results in our end of the year benchmark assessments, State assessments, student and family survey results, as well as a number of other measures we collect to give us information to make informed decisions. Throughout the summer, we will make plans on how to address these growth opportunities to better meet the needs of our students and strive for continuous improvement within our schools.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to remind our families of the importance of planning intentional, positive family experiences during the summer months. This could be a family vacation, but also could be something more simple like hikes, picnics, time at the park, game nights, etc. Students will benefit socially and emotionally from the positive family experiences. In addition, establishing routines and schedules during the summer months that include activities and academic experiences will also benefit the student’s well being. Having things like structured wake up and bedtimes, scheduled electronic device down time, scheduled time for academic activities (reading, math, and/or art), and chore lists that must be completed prior to electronic device time, are all ideas that will help establish routines and responsibility to build student confidence, well-being, and success. Check out the links below for additional summer activities and resources.

Thank you for the trust you place in our district. I look forward to seeing you out in our schools and community, and having the chance to talk in person.

Russ Hill,

Superintendent of East Valley Schools
